The Boys and Girls Club of West Georgia and Chambers County will host its annual banquet on May 8 at Del’avant Event Center in LaGrange.
The event will feature seven-time Emmy Award winner Roy Firestone, who is a sports commentator and journalist who once worked for ESPN. According to his website, Firestone has performed in more than two thousand venues in two decades, was featured in “Jerry Maguire” and has television credits for shows that include “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Married with Children.”
Firestone will perform a one-man show at the banquet.
“We are fortunate to have a board member that’s a close friend of Roy Firestone, and we were very lucky to get him,” said Boys and Girls Club President Kevin Cain.
Cain said the money raised goes toward paying staff for the students, providing snacks and going on field trips, as well as a number of other costs.
“There’s a whole host of things that these dollars will support that we believe is an incredible organization, well over 100 years old,” Cain said. “It provides so much for these kids during that critical time after school until it’s time to go home.”
Gold, silver and bronze level sponsorships are still available. For more information, contact kcain@bgcwestgeorgia.orgor call (404) 702-6389. Tickets are $100 for individuals and $150 for two people.
The event starts at 6 p.m. with a meet and greet with Firestone for anyone with gold sponsorship level.
“We are grateful for sponsors we have so far,” Cain said. “The community has really embraced this event and our efforts to try to go out and get sponsors. We are so fortunate to have a community that has supported the local Boys and Girls Clubs.”
