Week one is in the books.
While a new football season is still four months away, the local teams were on the field last week for the start of spring practice.
Callaway got started on Monday, and Troup and LaGrange kicked things off on Wednesday.
Each team is allotted 10 practice days, and that includes the spring game.
While LaGrange and Troup will play their spring games at Callaway Stadium, Callaway will cross the state line into Alabama for its spring game.
First up will be Callaway, which will play its spring game at Jacksonville State University on May 15.
Callaway’s opponent will be Charles Henderson High from Troy, Ala.
LaGrange, which is heading into its second season under head coach Chuck Gibbs, will play Hardaway on May 16 at Callaway Stadium.
The final spring game involving a local team will take place on May 17 at Callaway Stadium, with Troup playing Newnan.
After spring practice ends, the local teams will begin their respective summer programs, and that entails workouts at the schools, camps, and seven-on-seven and 11-on-11 scrimmages.
Official preseason practice begins on July 25, teams can hold their first full-contact practices on Aug. 1, and the regular season begins later in August.
Callaway and Troup are coming off exceptional seasons that ended in the semifinals of the state playoffs.
LaGrange went 2-8, but it closed the season with a come-from-behind victory over Shaw.
