Mrs. Ruth Ann Hammett

Mrs. Ruth Ann Hammett 84 of LaGrange, GA, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice. She was a lifelong resident of Troup County. Mrs. Hammett was born October 1, 1934 to the late Herman and Lula Akery. She was also preceded in death by one of her twin daughters, Wanda Saflet formerly of Greenville SC. Mrs. Hammett was very active in VFW Post 4629 Auxiliary where she served as President for 20 years. She enjoyed selling Bingo tickets and many other opportunities to serve the Post. Mrs. Hammett also enjoyed golfing, was a volunteer at Callaway Gardens and even enjoyed a little gambling. She was also employed by The LaGrange Daily News where worked getting the classified adds ready to print.
Survivors include her daughter Sanda “Sandy” (Curt) Kollar; two Grandsons Raymond (Shannon) Alexander of LaGrange GA and Eugene “Bubba” (Linda) Barentine of Greenville, SC; her sister Winnie Kenyon of Heard County as well as many other extended family. The Gathering of Family and Friends will be Wednesday, May 8, 2019 between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. with the Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Meadoway Cemetery.
