The Callaway Cavaliers, who are one of eight teams left standing in the Class AA state playoffs, are well-represented on the all-Region 5-AA team.

Four Callaway players, including three members of a talented senior class, were first-team selections.

Two Cavaliers made the second team, and three team members were honorable-mention picks.

Among Callaway’s first-team all-region players are seniors Drake Wade, Trent Sheppard and Braelin Mitchell.

Wade anchors Callaway’s defense from his shortstop position, and he’s a dynamic leadoff hitter.

Sheppard is an outfielder who has been one of Callaway’s best hitters the past two seasons, and Mitchell is a first baseman who has been instrumental to the team’s success.

In last week’s 1-0 win over Model in game one of their playoff series, Sheppard reached on a single in the sixth inning and stole second before scoring on Mitchell’s hit.

Also making the first team is freshman pitcher Justin Moore, who has won both of his starts in the playoffs.

Among Callaway’s second-team players is pitcher Dawson Wright, who threw a complete game in the 1-0 victory over Model.

Also making the second team is third baseman Wes Marchman.

Callaway’s honorable-mention selections are Jabari Smith (outfield/pitcher), Luke Swann (catcher) and Destin Patrick (outfield).

Callaway will continue its playoff run with this week’s quarterfinal series against Bacon County. They’ll play a doubleheader on Wednesday at 5 p.m., and if needed, a third game would be played on Thursday.
