ALBANY – Troup’s Ashanti Tigner capped her outstanding junior season by earning a place on the awards podium in two events at the Class AAAA state track and field meet in Albany.

Tigner’s best finish came in the 100-meter dash as she sprinted to a fourth-place finish with a time of 12.13 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, Tigner earned a sixth-place finish with a time of 25.66 seconds.

Tigner had a special spring that included Region 5-AAAA championships in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.

Tigner then posted the best times in both of those events at the Class AAAA state sectional in Columbus to make it to the state finals.

Callaway’s 1,600-meter relay team also competed at state, but it didn’t advance to Saturday’s state finals.

There were 16 individuals or teams in each preliminary race, and the top eight finishers made it through to the state finals.

Kaila Jones-Hooks, Khara Roberts and Catherine Leverette joined Tigner on the relay team.
