LaGrange sale of commercial sanitation assets finalized

The City of LaGrange finalized the sale of its commercial sanitation assets to LaGrange Sanitation Services for $3 million dollars Friday afternoon.
The money from the sale of the commercial sanitation assets will be set aside to be used toward the post closure of the city’s landfill. With the reduction of commercial waste, the landfill life will be extended an additional twenty years.
Effective last Saturday, commercial front loader fees will no longer be billed through the city utility bill. Roll-off commercial and industrial customers will receive final bills the first week of June.
Effective July 1, landfill operations will be restricted to residential waste only from Monday through Thursday. City of LaGrange residents will continue to receive bulky item pick up at the curb, along with limb and leaf service.
If a business uses a rolling trash bin similar to the residential trash bin, the City of LaGrange will continue to service those businesses with no disruption in service.
All affected employees in the city’s commercial sanitation department either took other positions within the city or have been offered a position with LaGrange Sanitation Services.
The following city services will not be affected:
- Residential sanitation, any resident or business who utilizes a rolling trash bin
- Curbside recycling
- Yard waste/limbs and leaves
- Household waste
