Edward Eugene “Gene” Bishop, age 85, of LaGrange, passed away on June 18, 2019 at the WellStar West Georgia Hospice.  Mr. Bishop was born on August 30, 1933 in Bainbridge, Georgia to the late Carl Eugene Bishop and Carrie Parker Bishop.  He worked for over 48 years at Newman Construction, retiring at the Building Supple Manager.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jason Eugene Bishop.  Survivors include his wife, Bonita Freeman Bishop; daughter, Brenda Bishop Prophett and her husband Jerry; brother, Kenneth Bishop; grandchildren, Shane Prophett (Amanda) and Aaron Prophett (Shannon); great grandchildren, Jake Prophett, Micah Prophett, Anna Grace Prophett and Lucah Prophett; extended family and friends.  Services for Mr. Bishop will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the East Vernon Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Pastor Bernie Pasley, Pastor Ronnie Puckett and Pastor Adam Camp officiating.  Family will receive friends on Friday at the church from 1-2 p.m.  Private interment services will be held at Shadowlawn Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the WellStar West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Road, LaGrange, 30240 or the East Vernon Baptist Church, 2918 Roanoke Road, LaGrange, 30240.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.higginsfuneralhomes.com.  Higgins LaGrange Chapel, 706-884-7117.
