Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Gossage McClearn

Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Gossage McClearn, 89 of LaGrange, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019. She was originally from Heflin, AL where she was part of a large family. After school, she moved to Birmingham to work. She was a member of West End Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.

Liz met G.D. (Mac) McClearn while working at Graybar Electric Company. They married in 1970. They continued to live and work in Birmingham until retirement. In 1989, they relocated to LaGrange, GA. They were members at First Baptist Church of LaGrange where she sang in the New Horizons Choir. Liz also volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at West Georgia Medical Center and at Florence Hand Nursing Home. She supported many children’s charities and bought coats each year for needy children.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mac McClearn, who died in 2011. And, she is survived by a brother, Keema Gossage of Heflin, AL; sister, Eileen Boyd of San Luis Obispo, CA. Although she never had children of her own, Liz loved, and was loved by many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

Liz McClearn was a loving, generous woman. She loved to travel, she loved family and friends, she loved children, and she loved to ride on country roads.

The Gathering of Family and Friends will be Saturday, June 22, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Celebration of Life will start at 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family request a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice in memory of Mrs. McClearn.
