Mr. Billy Ray Tweed

Billy Ray Tweed, 92, of Dawsonville passed away Friday June 28, 2019, at Northside Forsyth Hospital following a period of declining health.

Born April 5, 1927, in Black Joe, Kentucky to the late Murphy and Mary Tweed, he moved to Dawson County from LaGrange, Georgia, 6 years ago.  Mr. Tweed retired from the U. S. Army as a chief warrant officer II following 24 years of service.  He served during WWII and the Korean Conflict.  Following his military career, he worked as a purchasing manager for Durand-Wayland, Inc. where he retired after 20 years of service. Billy was a life member of the Military Officer Association of American and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and was a former member of Cedarcrest Community Church in LaGrange where he was instrumental in the building of the church. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, enjoying his coffee and telling stories.  Mr. Tweed was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lynn Thacker Tweed; and a brother, Clyde Edward Tweed.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Tweed, Dawsonville; children, Ray and Lori Tweed of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, Susie and Bobby Garmon of Dahlonega, Georgia, Patty and Dennis Talley of Williamson, Georgia, Bryan and Kelli Tweed of Birmingham, Alabama; stepchildren, Anthony and Lisa Coleman, Cumming, Georgia, Darlene Coleman, Dawsonville, Robbie Coleman, Gainesville, Georgia; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

A funeral service was held Monday July 1, 2019, at 7 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, 2065 Bethany Church Road, Milton, GA 30004.  The Rev. Alan Sutton will officiate. The family received friends at Bethany Baptist Church on Monday beginning at 5 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 2, 2019, at 3 o’clock at Cedarcrest Community Church, 2380 Roanoke Road, LaGrange, GA 30240.  Dr. Paul Botica and the Rev. Bob Humphries will officiate. Interment will follow in Meadoway Gardens. The family will receive friends at Cedarcrest Community Church on Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bethany Baptist Church or Cedarcrest Community Church.
