While the weekend will be clustered with grey clouds and bouts of thunderstorms, there will be plenty of events to fill the time available with fun and relaxation.
The city will hold its monthly liter pick up from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Saturday morning. Volunteers will meet at Hollis Hand Elementary on 641 Country Club Road.
Outside events to look out for will be the Classic Car Cruise-In showcase from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. at 200 Bull Street, as well as the Sierra Club LaGrange Group Chattahoochee River Paddle Trip. Preregistration is required for this trip and can be access on the club’s meetup website page.
Saturday the LaGrange Memorial Society will also host an Apollo 11 party celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
“The event is educational for everyone,” Kate Chambers, children’s librarian, said. “Attendees will be learning and having discussion about the moon landing and astronauts.”
The event is to start around 11 a.m. and end at 4 p.m.
“The crafts will be geared more toward elementary-aged kids,” Chambers said.
There will be several crafts and snacks at the event, including freeze-dried astronaut food, a tang drink (the astronaut drink of choice, according to Chambers) and an activity where kids design their own Apollo mission patches. There will also be broadcasts playing of the actual moon landing.
A live performance by Atlanta songwriter and singer Josh Purgason at the Beacon Brewing Co. from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Lastly, the Lafayette Theatre Company will hold casting calls for their 2019-2020 season from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Preferred ages for performers is 18 or older. For additional information, call the LTC at 706-882-9909
