Rock-soul band St. Paul and the Broken Bones, along with opening act Linqua Franqa, will be performing at Sweetland Amphitheater this upcoming Thursday, July 25.
St. Paul and the Broken Bones’ frontman, Paul Janeway, began his musical career in church, which exposed him to soulful sounds and lead him to gain a sense of key influences in gospel music. Janeway then began to move away from his soulful upbringing and began to dabble in open mic clubs in his hometown of Birmingham, Ala., at which point he began to add a rock-like musical diversity to his sound, which can still be heard in St. Paul and the Broken Bones’ music today.
Opening act Linqua Franqa is a spunky, hip-hop artist who also serves on the Athens city council. Her lyrics are personal and political, embellished with complex rhymes and touches of jazz.
St. Paul and the Broken Bones now average more than one million monthly listeners on the popular music streaming service Spotify, and have produced such hits as ‘Call Me’ and ‘Flow with It.’
Tickets to the event can be found on the Sweetland website, where interested parties can also find information about parking and VIP access. Outside food and beverages, including alcoholic beverages, are not permitted. Inside the gates there will be food and beverages (including beer, wine, and sodas) for sale at the Sweetland concessions counter. Gates open at 7:00 pm and music will begin at 8 pm.
