Mr. Edward “Ned” West Daniel, age 89, of LaGrange, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2019.  Mr. Daniel was born on November 24, 1929, in Sandersville, Georgia, to the late James Hiram Daniel and Helen West Daniel.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Daniel Padgett.

Mr. Daniel graduated from the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.  There he met his beautiful Betty Knight and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage.  He served his country in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant in the Korean War (1951-1953).  Mr. Daniel was employed by Consolidated Textiles in Lynchburg, VA, from 1953-1957.  Upon moving to LaGrange (and during the time his family lived in Lakeland, FL), he was employed at Callaway Mills/Milliken & Company where he worked until his retirement in 1991 as Territorial Sales Manager.

Mr. Daniel was a founding member of South Rotary Club in Lakeland, FL, and he served as President of the Highland Country Club in LaGrange. He was an avid golfer, reader and loved traveling with Betty Knight. He was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, layreader and Lay Eucharistic Minister.  He was an active participant in the Meals on Wheels program at St. Mark’s.

Ned Daniel was a loving husband and father.  He was beloved by all who knew him because they believed Ned truly loved them and he did!  He had an amazing sense of humor and a great enthusiasm for life.  He loved to entertain others with his jokes and storytelling abilities.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Knight Langley Daniel; children, Elizabeth “Libba” Daniel Murray (Gene Lynch) of Orlando, Florida, Catherine “Cacky” Daniel McKenzie (Ray) of LaGrange, Sally Daniel Howard (Jim) of Macon; grandchildren, Christopher Edward Murray, Catherine “Katie” McKenzie Williams (Carter), Collier West McKenzie (Meredith) and Laura Howard Mundy (Stephen); Great Grandchildren, West and Harrison McKenzie and Langley Mundy. He was affectionately known as “Daddy Ned” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Mr. Daniel will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the St Mark’s Episcopal Church.  A reception will follow the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Columbarium Fund, 207 N.Greenwood St., LaGrange, 30240.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.higginsfuneralhomes.com.
