On Saturday, Aug. 3, The Salvation Army in partnership with Walmart, will hold a Pack the Bus event.

Pack the Bus event is a nationwide Walmart campaign where members of the community are encouraged to donate school supplies and other school-related necessities. These donations will be given to children in need in the community.

Lisa Martin, the service center director for The Salvation Army’s Troup County location, said that at the event, there will be a school bus that will be stuffed with all supplies donated.

“Items will either be dropped off at the Salvation Army or at the event that will be held in the parking lot of the Walmart on New Franklin Road,” Martin said. “The goal is to be able to fill the entire bus with supplies to give to children in need before they go back to school.”

Registration for the event can be found on both the Walmart online website and the Salvation Army website. The event will be held Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. All items that are donated will be given to children in Troup County.

“What comes from our community stays in our community,” Martin said when asked where the proceeds and donations from the pack the bus event will be headed. “Everything will be going back into the Troup County community to kids who need it.”

Anyone who can’t make the event on Aug. 3 will still an opportunity to donate school supplies for local children at The Salvation Army located at 202 Church St. in LaGrange. Supplies can be dropped off Monday, Aug. 5 through Saturday, Aug. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
