A man with LaGrange connections is wanted for murder following a homicide that took place Monday in Port Saint Joe, Florida.
The Gulf County Sheriff’s Office in Florida is seeking information on the whereabouts of 34-year-old Stephen Michael Smith, who has been identified as the shooter in the homicide investigation. Daniel Lee Upton, 30, of Lakeland, Florida was killed in the shooting.
According to GCSO Chief Deputy Chris Buchanan, Smith is also wanted for absconding from a work release program at the Clayton Transition Center, where he was serving his sentence for a robbery from 2016.
“He has friend’s connections here, a prior arrest here and a Roanoke address,” said Stewart Smith with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office. “He is wanted in Florida for murder.”
According to Buchanan, it is hard to pinpoint exactly where Smith could be headed since he has no concrete address.
GSCO described smith as a white male, approximately 5-foot-10 inches tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds. He has brown hair, green eyes and various tattoos.
Anyone with information on Smith’s location is asked to contact the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 227-1115.
