This weekend will include several family-friendly events that are open to the public, including a historic walking tour, a family friendly movie and a community cleanup.
The weekend will kick off on Friday with the Strange LaGrange: Ghosts, Legends and Spirited History walking tour. The event will be held by the Troup County Historical Society, and local spirit guide Lewis Powell will lead the walking tour, which begins at Legacy Museum on Main at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle and umbrella in case of rain.
The Biblical History Center will host a free family movie night at 130 Gordon Commercial Drive on Friday. The featured film will be “Joseph: King of Dreams,” which is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
Saturday’s events will get going early with the City of LaGrange’s monthly Leaving LaGrange Better Than We Found It litter pickup, which is open to the public. This month the cleanup will begin at Berta Weathersbee Elementary School at 1200 Forrest Avenue at 8 a.m.
“This is an awesome opportunity to grow with the community and beautify the area and be as one, be one team for one cause,” Berta Weathersbee Principal Willie Cooks said.
“I thank the community for their support. I thank the community for coming together with Berta as we beautify the area.”
Cooks said he plans to be at the cleanup event, and he hopes to see parents, student, family members and teachers there as well.
“I would like to thank everyone for the opportunity to become one with the community and combine with the school district,” Cooks said.
“We are doing a great thing for our students and community being of one accord as we beautify the area and give life lessons to our students.”
The event will also include a scavenger hunt with prizes.
The Downtown LaGrange Development Authority will host Market on Main at Flag Pole Park, near Lafayette Square.
The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and regularly features a mixture of fresh produce, canned goods, baked goods and plants.
Also on Saturday morning, LaGrange Academy will host its seventh annual 5K and fun run. Funds raised by the race support projects of the LaGrange Academy Parent Association as it works to support the teachers and students at LaGrange Academy.
The one-mile fun run will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K at 9 a.m.
Pure Life Studios will round out the weekend on Saturday with a performance by the Reckless Saints. The group is led by self-proclaimed troubadour and formerly syndicated cartoonist Roy Schneider, who has been performing Americana music since 2008 with his partner, Kim Mayfield. The pair has received international radio airplay.
