Safe Families to host first gala

Safe Families for Children West Georgia will host its first fundraiser on Sept. 23.

The Our Children, Our Future gala will benefit the Safe Families program that partners with churches in the community to temporarily care for at-risk children.

“We are also using the event to reach out to the community and show them what our organization is about,” said Director of Development Jennifer Shawa. “We provide a safety net for families who are going through a crisis by connecting them with other families.”

Safe Families started serving the area three years ago and was funded by grants that are now phasing out. Shawa said the success of this fundraiser is imperative to being able to serve the children in need in the area.

“We really hope families in the faith community enjoy the night, hear our mission and possibly join the Safe Family network,” Shawa said. “We are really excited. It should be a fun night for the faith community, and it’s always really wonderful to have fun for a good purpose.”

Tickets are $35 each that will include dinner catered by Tulla White and entertainment by award-winning Christian comedian Mike Williams. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Del’avant. Tickets are still available at twincedars.org/our-children-our-future-gala-2019.

By the end of the night, Shawa said she hopes there are a few more churches they can add to their list to help be a part of the Safe Families program.

“This program operates by connecting with churches, and there are then ‘Safe Families’ in the church,” Shawa said. “There is a long line of networks that support other church members.”

Safe Families is a national organization with a local West Georgia Chapter in LaGrange as a program of Twin Cedars Youth and Family Services, Inc.
