Mr. Charlie Ellis Solomon, Sr.

Mr. Charlie Ellis Solomon, Sr., 99, of LaGrange, GA passed away Friday, September 13, 2019 at Hospice LaGrange.

Mr. Solomon was born June 7, 1920 in LaGrange, GA, son of the late Ellis Solomon and Kamily Maloof Solomon.  He was a graduate of LaGrange High School and was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Army/Air Force in the Pacific.  Mr. Solomon was the owner of Solomon’s Department Store before retiring.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 73 years, Frances Jabaley Solomon and a son, Charlie Ellis Solomon, Jr.

Mr. Solomon was a charter member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.  He was one of the founding members of the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority serving 22 years.  Mr. Solomon was a member of Highland Country Club, founding member and past President of the LaGrange Optimist Club and was elected the Lt. Governor of Optimist International.  He was also a member of the Elks Club, Moose Club, American Legion, and Charter member of the LaGrange Jaycees.  He was one of the founders of Little League Baseball in LaGrange.  Mr. Solomon was an avid golfer and loved all sports, especially the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Football, and UT Football.  He was an “unofficial” master gardener.

Survivors include his son, Ellis Solomon (Judy); daughters, Patty Solomon and Cammie Solomon Long (Wesley); grandchildren, Ida Solomon Durand, Liza Solomon Ogden (Philip), Charles McLeod (Meg), Brandon Solomon (Maria), Michael Solomon, and Trae Long; great grandchildren, Dottie Durand, Emma Ogden, Render McLeod, Belle Solomon, Stiles McLeod, Daniels Durand, Millan Solomon, Matthew Ogden, and Sig McLeod.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father Tim Gadziala officiating.  The Mercy Dinner will immediately follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, West Georgia Hospice, or the LaGrange Troup County Humane Society in memory of Mr. Charlie Ellis Solomon, Sr.
