County recognizes employees
In his 30 years with the Troup County Fire Department, EMT/Fire Lt. Norman Robinson has saved countless lives through his work with the fire prevention education program and work with Battalion 1 at Station 1.
On Tuesday, the Troup County Board of Commissioners took a moment to recognize the work that Robinson and other committed employees have done for the citizens they serve. Robinson was the senior most employee honored on Tuesday.
Robinson began work for the county in 1989, and in addition to his work with fire prevention education and Battalion 1 at Station 1, he serves as duty officer when the battalion chief is off duty. Robinson has been recognized as the Firefighter of the Year three times — in 1996, 2006 and 2017.
“I’ve only been here for about 40-45 days and having an employee that has been here for 30 years is really exciting,” Troup County Fire Chief John Ekaitis said. “It shows the dedication of the men in the fire service in Troup County.”
Troup County Human Resources Director Valerie Heard was honored for 25 years of service to the county. Heard began her career with the county in the human resources department in 1994, and she held several positions with the county before being promoted to her current role in 2011.
“Valerie, it has been a pleasure to work with you and beside you for the last two years,” County Manager Eric Mosley said.
Heard has been recognized for numerous accomplishments during her years of service to the county, and she said she looks forward too many more years with the county.
Engineering Technician George Littlefield was also honored for 25 years of service.
Buddy Cashwell, Stephen D’Angelo, Edward Haralson, Tiffany Hutchinson and Christopher McGhee were honored for five years of service. James Kinnersley, Harvey McCord, Dan Smith and Patrick Tunnell were honored for 10 years of service. Renzo Bates Jr., LaShanta Gray and Andreas Harrilson were honored for 15 years of service. Cindy Jones and Michael “Curt” Nation were recognized for 20 years of service.
“Through the years your talents and efforts have helped Troup County and its citizens,” said Wesleigh Whittle, administrative assistant for the Troup County Human Resources Department. “Together, we take pride in your accomplishments and your commitment to excellence. We applaud the determination and efforts that you have demonstrated during your time with us. We look forward to the things we know you will accomplish in the upcoming years.”
Other items covered during Tuesday’s meeting included:
- The Troup County Board of Commissioners approved a request from the sanitation department to lift the hiring freeze to hire a part time convenience center assistant to replace a staff member who resigned due to personal health reasons.
- The board of commissioners approved a request from the roads and engineering department to lift the hiring freeze to add four road maintenance workers to the department.
- The board of commissioners voted to adopt a resolution for the 2019 CIE annual update report, which maintains impact fees at $0.
- The board of commissioners voted to authorize Crews to sign the supplemental agreement for the LaGrange-Callaway Airport runway expansion.
