Home-standing LaGrange Academy topped rival Flint river 8-3 on Tuesday.

Amber Corley got the complete-game victory while striking out 16.

Offensively, Kayla McBride had two hits and three RBIs, and Megan Allen had two hits.

Natalee Waddell and Madison Petite each had a hit and an RBI, and McKenzie Jones, Laney Lackey and Corley had one hit apiece.

LAGRANGE HIGH: Needing a win to hang onto the all-important number two spot in Region 5-AAAA, LaGrange went on the road and overwhelmed Sandy Creek 19-1 on Tuesday.

After scoring two runs in the first inning, LaGrange busted it open with 13 runs in the top of the second.

LaGrange added four more runs in the top of the third, and the game ended after the bottom of the third because of the run rule.

LaGrange (18-8 overall) improved to 8-3 in the region, leaving it in second place behind Central-Carroll, which is 9-1 in region play.

LaGrange banged out 16 hits.

Jacee Marable had four hits, including a pair of doubles, and she drove in three runs.

Madison Dennis had three hits and two RBIs, and Abby Vanhoose had two hits and four RBIs.

Leadoff hitter Malone Aldridge had two doubles and two RBIs, and Macee Stone had two hits with two RBIs.

Kirsten Williams had a hit with three runs scored, Holly Lynn had a hit and an RBI, and Smith had a single.

If LaGrange wins at Chapel Hill on Thursday, it will finish second in the region.

If LaGrange finishes second, it would play top-seeded Central-Carroll in a best-of-three series for the region championship.

TROUP: Cedartown, which still has a chance to catch LaGrange for second place in the region, beat visiting Troup 10-0 on Tuesday.

Hadleigh Livingston and Jennifer Albertson had Troup’s only hits.

VOLLEYBALL: Callaway remained unbeaten in area play with a straight-sets win over home-standing Heard County on Tuesday.

Callaway won the opening set 25-16 before finishing things off with a 25-11 win.

On Monday, Callaway beat LaGrange for the second time this season.

After the teams split the first two sets, Callaway won the third and deciding set 15-9.
