As H.O.P.E for a Day is just right around the corner, the members of the H.O.P.E board are heavily campaigning to raise money. This year the event organizers set a goal to reach $1 million to donate to local organizations who provide resources, support, research, and early detection for breast cancer patients, survivors and care-takers.
“This is our tenth year for H.O.P.E for a Day and we are at about to reach the one million [dollar] mark,” said co-chair Pam Herndon. “We are really trying hard to reach out to businesses who want to be a sponsor or any person who just has it on their heart to drop off $10, $15, $20 or however much they can.”
On Monday night, the Junior Service League of LaGrange, donated $6,370 to help reach that $1 million goal.
“We are trying so hard to reach our goal this year,” Herndon said. “They found out that we were so close so they decided, with their surplus money, to give us that check.”
The organization is $160,000 away from reaching the one million-mark, which Herndon said she is positive they will reach.
“Ever since we found out about getting this check I have been beyond ecstatic, it was a God send,” Herndon said.
The 10-mile fundraising walk will be on Sept. 28 through LaGrange in support of those affected by breast cancer or who are currently fighting the battle. Beginning at 7 a.m. walkers will meet at the Lafayette Society for Performing Arts parking lot for registration and the walk will begin shortly after opening remarks at 8 a.m. During the walk, Paint the Town Pink will also take place at 10 a.m. where Lafayette Square is covered with the signature color of breast cancer awareness.
“This is 10-miles, one day and a million memories,” Herndon said. “That is so true for this, especially this year.”
Additionally, during the event, WellStar West Georgia Medical Center in conjunction with West Georgia Cancer Coalition will be on hand doing free breast Exams.
