Concert to fill weekend schedule in LaGrange

This weekend will be jam packed with fun events for all ages and interests, with a major art and music festival, the Junior Service League’s annual Attic Sale, a 5K in Hogansville and more.

The Rockweave Music and Arts Festival will likely be the biggest event in Troup County this weekend, with Dawes, Johnnyswim and The Suffers are expected to take the stage at Sweetland Amphitheatre on Friday evening. Then the concert will really get going on Saturday, with performances at the Main Stage, Southbend Stage, Overlook Stage next to Wild Leap Brew Co. Some of the highlights of Saturday will include Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Grouplove and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. The festival will also performances from local groups, including the Young Singers of West Georgia, Front Porch Collective and Nobody’s Rose.

All ages are welcome at the concert, and children 12 and under are admitted free with an adult ticket holder. No outside food or beverages will be permitted at the festival. For more information about the festival, visit Rockweave.com.

For those who’d rather hear local ghost stories, Troup County Historical Society Docent and Southern Spirit Guide Lewis Powell will host a ghostly tour of LaGrange, while sharing the spirited history of Troup County and those who call it home. The walking tour will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main at 7 p.m., rain or shine. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle and an umbrella if the weather calls for rain. To learn more, visit Trouparchives.org.

Younger history lovers may also enjoy Hands on History at Legacy Museum on Main on Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon. 

The free event will include story time, hands-on activities or games designed to engage “younger historians.”

Also on Saturday morning, the Hogansville Charitable Trust will host the annual Tower Trail Run/Walk, with proceeds to benefit the charity. In the past, the funds raised by the race have been used to secure federal and state grants, which resulted in an estimated $1.5 million in improvements to the city. The race will begin and end at Hogansville Elementary School and will continue through downtown Hogansville. Then on Saturday evening, the West Point Active Life Center will host its 2019 Senior Prom. This year’s theme will be a night on the Hollywood Red Carpet, and the event will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Depot in West Point. Tickets cost $25. For more information, call (706) 3580.

Finally, on Sunday, LaGrange First United Methodist Church will host a Blessing of the Animals service at South Bend Park from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
