Callaway High’s volleyball team is hoping a home-court advantage will help it win an area championship on Saturday.

Callaway is hosting the six-team, double-elimination area tournament, and four of those teams will advance to the state playoffs.

Callaway, thanks to its win over Central High on Thursday, will be the tournament’s number one seed.

Callaway and Lamar County, the number two seed, will have first-round byes.

In the two first-round matches that will be played at 10 a.m. in the two gyms at Callaway, it’ll be third-seeded Central against sixth-seeded Greenville, and fourth-seeded Jordan against fifth-seeded Spencer.

Callaway will play the winner of the Jordan and Spencer match, and Lamar County will play the winner of the Central and Greenville match.

The winners of those two matches will qualify for state, no matter what happens the rest of the day.

The Lady Cavaliers have only dropped one area match all season, and if they continue that trend on Saturday they’ll be able to celebrate an area title.

“My whole goal this year was to get a banner in here, and these girls can make it happen,” Callaway head coach Precious White said. “They’re dedicated, and they’re determined.”
