After six months of planning, construction and renovations, Storage Master has officially opened up 250 storage units on South Greenwood Street.

Owner Chris Averett said he has been running storage units since 1998, and this is his sixth location for Storage Master.

“We have one in Columbus, two in Dothan, one in Douglasville and one in Pensacola,” Averett said. “We look for opportunities and this happens to be in the opportunity zone.”

Qualified Opportunity Zones are supposed to encourage investment in areas where poverty rates are greater than 20 percent, and Storage Master’s location fits into the criteria.

When it came to choosing this location, Averett said his old office was behind the building and they happened to come upon it after doing landscaping work.

“I just saw a lot of vines were growing over the back, and we were trying to cut them back,” Averett said. “I said, ‘where is all this coming from?’ I walked around, and I saw it vacant and thought ‘this is perfect.’”

Averett sold the property for his other business, Averett Rentals, which was behind the new Storage Master location. Then, he opened Storage Master at 401 South Greenwood Street and moved Averett Rentals inside the Storage Master office.

“We offer anywhere from 5 by 5 storage units to 15 by 25,” said Manager Allison Stone. “It is a month-to-month lease, so no contracts, and prices range from $65 to $220.”

Averett took before photos of the building that show the extensive renovations to bring the building to their standards. Storage Master offers climate controlled and self-storage units, more than 10 video surveillance cameras throughout the building, electronic access seven days a week, alarmed units and more. 4

“I just love LaGrange, really,” Averett said. “I’ve had business here, and I grew up here. I’ve been looking for an opportunity and this was it. I am excited to reinvest in the community.”

Completely inside, the two-story storage facility also gives each customer a unique code that automatically logs when the unit opens and closes, keeping customers and their items safe while using the facility.

“We are here, we are open and we want your business,” Averett said. “We’ve got plenty of room to handle everyone.”

Additionally, Storage Master offers a Penske Truck rental service. For more information about Storage Master or how to rent a unit, call (706) 882-7560 or visit storagemasteronline.com.
