Community event encourages bonding

Over the weekend, the LaGrange Fire Department hosted its fifth annual Citizen’s Day at the LaGrange Mall.

This event brings families from all over the community to show children what it is like to be a first responder on a slightly smaller scale.

They take part in an obstacle course while wearing a kid-sized firefighters uniform.

This event gives children a first-hand look at what it is like inside the big red truck they always see speeding down the road with flashing lights, but it is also a chance to form bonds with the first responders.

Kids also got the opportunity to take pictures with Sparky, a tall dalmatian mascot dressed in a firefighters uniform.

Every day we see these local heroes putting out fires or helping in an emergency, but it’s not every day the community has the opportunity to get one-on-one time with a firefighter.

This event creates bonds that may not have been able to be there before.

LFD doing this event every year helps create a stronger relationship between the community and first responders.

It also gave way for families and children to learn about fire safety.

Thank you to all the first responders who helped make this event a success.  It was a fun way for children to learn about LFD.
