The LaGrange High and LaGrange Academy softball teams were supposed to play their state-playoff openers on Tuesday on their home fields, but Mother Nature had other ideas.

Because of a rain storm that moved through the area on Tuesday, the state games were postponed, and they’ll be played on Wednesday instead.

LaGrange is playing Shaw in the second round of the Class AAAA state playoffs, while LaGrange Academy is facing Twiggs Academy in the semifinals of the GISA Class A state tournament.

LaGrange and Shaw will play a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m., and if needed, a third and deciding game in the best-of-three series would be on Thursday.

The winner of the series advances to the eight-team state finals in Columbus next week.

LaGrange, the number two team from Region 5-AAAA, beat Denmark in the opening round of the playoffs.

Shaw, the fourth seed from Region 1-AAAA, knocked off Region 3-AAAA champion Burke County in the first round.

LaGrange Academy is the number one seed in the four-team GISA Class A tournament, and it will play fourth-seeded Twiggs Academy.

The first game is at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and they’ll keep playing until the series is over, meaning there could be as many as three games in one day.

In the other semifinal series, third-seeded Flint River Academy earned its spot in the championship series with a win over second-seeded Thomas Jefferson Academy.

If LaGrange Academy beats Twiggs, it will host Flint River in the best-of-three championship series on Saturday.
