Mrs. Mary Olivia Johnson Rigby (Libby)

Mary Olivia Johnson Rigby (Libby), 73, of LaGrange, GA passed away suddenly on October 19, 2019. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 2, 1946 along with her twin sister, Linda Johnson Raines. Libby graduated from Murfreesboro High School and Chowan Junior College, both in Murfreesboro, NC. She earned a B.S. Degree in Music Education from Greensboro (NC) College. Libby was preceded in death by her mother and father, and by her twin sister, Linda Johnson Raines. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Jerry Rigby. Survivors also include her brother Wilson Johnson (Anne), nephew Matthew Johnson (Sarah), niece Catherine Johnson Loveall (Mat), 1 great niece, and 1 great nephew, and brother-in-law Jim Raines. She and Jerry have been surrogate grandparents to Jenna and Ryan, Jerry’s sister Joy and husband Carlie Copeland.  Libby taught music in Richmond (VA) City Public Schools from 1968 to 1974. Following her move to LaGrange, GA, she taught private harp and piano lessons from 1977 until she went back to LaGrange College to get her pre-pharmacy requirements and then to Auburn University Pharmacy School where she earned a B.S. degree in Pharmacy and became a Licensed Pharmacist. She worked at the West Georgia Medical Center for 25 + years. She started Home infusion pharmacy at West Georgia Medical Center and worked until her retirement in 2017. Since retirement, she has worked at The Medicine Cabinet in LaGrange. Libby was an active member of First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange. She also led several Bible study programs over the years. She faithfully served her Sunday school class, sang in the choir, and played the harp in the church orchestra. She also taught Mille Criswell beginning harp lessons. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 am. In lieu of flowers, Libby and Jerry had made the decision to have no flowers and donations can be made to the West Georgia Auburn Club (Charles D. Hudson Scholarship) or to WellStar West Georgia Hospice.
