Choral Society to host Thanksgiving concert
As Christmas decorations begin to flood stores, the Choral Society of West Georgia is once again asking the community to take a moment for thanksgiving, praise and remembrance at its annual “We Gather Together” concert.
The 14th annual concert is scheduled for Nov. 24, and this year will be the first time that the Choral Society of West Georgia will perform at First Methodist Church in LaGrange. The concert will once again feature a series of sacred, secular and patriotic songs sung by the 60-member choral group.
“I think this concert for a moment in time brings us back to reflect on how fortunate we are to have what we have and to be thankful for all the blessings [we have],” Biggs said. “It’s devoid of the Christmas rush and the Christmas kind of madness that sometimes engulfs everything. It is that moment in time that brings us all back to that place [to celebrate the season].”
This year the concert will feature guest performers the Vega String Quartet, which is the quartet in residence at Emory University, which has performed at Carnegie Hall, at the Royal Academy of Music in London, on NPR’s Performance Today (USA) and a variety of other prestigious venues.
“They are a world class string quartet, and they will perform several collaborative pieces with us,” Biggs said. “They will play a set completely by themselves as well. Because this concert is centered around Americana, their pieces will reflect that.”
The guest narrator for “We Gather Together” will be Carol Cain.
“We are so honored to have her featured,” Biggs said. “Two years ago, she was Rosie the Riveter for the war remembrance concert, which was wonderful, but I always wanted to be able to feature her in this setting.”
The We Gather Together concert will take place at First United Methodist Church in LaGrange at 401 Broad Street in LaGrange on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost $15 in advance or $20 at the door and can be reserved at Choralsocietyofwestgeorgia.org.
