The Callaway Cavaliers will host Chattooga in the opening round of the Class AA state playoffs.

Callaway won the Region 5-AA championship to earn home-field advantage in the first round of the state playoffs.

Callaway’s opponent is Chattooga, which finished fourth in Region 7-AA after losing to Pepperell on Friday.

Callaway (9-1) has won nine straight games since losing its season opener to Opelika, and it won the region title with a 6-0 record.

Chattooga (5-5), which had won two straight games before losing to Pepperell on Friday night, finished with a 4-3 region record.

Callaway made it to the state semifinals last season.

Troup, meanwhile, will face a familiar opponent in the first round of the Class AAAA state playoffs.

Troup, the number four team from Region 5-AAAA, will visit Region 7-AAAA champion Blessed Trinity next week.

Blessed Trinity beat Troup in the state semifinals last season on the way to a state championship.

Troup lost to Cartersville 45-35 in its regular-season finale, but it made the playoffs thanks to Cedartown’s victory over Chapel Hill.
