The Lafayette Christian School Cougars closed the regular season with a dramatic 21-20 victory over Griffin Christian.
Trailing by one point, the Cougars (7-2) tied it on a touchdown run by Nathan Fain in the fourth quarter, and Fain also made the extra point to give his team the lead.
On Friday, those two teams will meet again, and the stakes will be considerably higher this time around.
Both teams won their semifinal game last week, setting up a championship-showdown in the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association state playoffs.
The game will be played at Lafayette Christian, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
A win would give the Cougars their second state championship since 2015, and their first as an 11-man program.
Lafayette Christian made it to the state-title game last year before losing to Life Christian.
In last week’s semifinal game, Lafayette Christian outlasted Georgia Christian 16-6, while Griffin Christian eased past Hancock Academy 21-14.
