One of the season’s most anticipated concerts will ring out on Saturday when the Sons of Lafayette present “Christmas with the Sons” at LaGrange First United Methodist Church.
The annual Christmas concert will feature the 40-member male choir performing holiday favorites like “Mistletoe and Holly” and “White Christmas.”
“We’re excited to be able to spread some holiday cheer yet again,” said Darian Krimm, the artistic director for the Sons of Lafayette. “It’ll be a wonderful mixed bag of everything. … There are familiar carols, familiar Christmas holiday songs and favorites and some new things thrown in as well.”
Krimm said that he is especially excited about a piece based on the poem “Love Came Down at Christmas” by Christina Rossetti.
“I’ve been telling the men all season as we rehearse, ‘Guys, this piece alone is worth the price of admission because you are singing it so beautifully,’” Krimm said. “That is one of the ones that is going to feature strings and oboe, and I think it will just warm the heart. It is Christmas in one song.”
Andrew Harry will provide accompaniment on the piano, and other local instrumentalists on strings and woodwinds will also join the Sons of Lafayette for the concert.
“They will really make the music even richer and really help us bring these pieces to life,” Krimm said.
The Sons of Lafayette will perform Christmas with the Sons at First Methodist Church at 401 Broad Street on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Children 12 and under may attend free of charge. Tickets can be purchased at Plum Southern, Marketplace on the Square, from members of the group or online at Sonsoflafayette.org.
