Staffing agencies host food drive for local food bank

Four staffing agencies, who typically compete against one another for customers, are joining together for a greater cause this holiday season.

Kelly Services, Malone Workforce Solutions, Allegiance Staffing Solutions and Surge Staffing are collecting dry food goods until Dec. 20.

“We are teaming to help other people,” said Kelly Services Talent Recruiter Pam Pruett. “We are hungry for applicants, but we know there are people in the community that are just hungry. We can try and meet those needs in both ways.”

Each staffing service will have a food drive box at each of their locations where contributors can donate a food can.

At the end of the drive, the agencies will hold a drawing for a $50 gift card from a list of names from those who donated. Each canned food item will count as an entry.

“We are going to donate the food to LaGrange Personal Aid [Association],” Pruett said.

“I feel like after Thanksgiving, they will probably be a little bit depleted. We just want to give back and join together.”

LaGrange Personal Aid Association works as a non-profit organization, established to provide assistance to residents of the Troup County area during times of distress, illness or emergency.

Pruett said sometimes staffing agencies are pitted against one other, and this gives them a chance to connect over a common cause.

One of LaGrange Personal Aid’s many programs include the Interfaith Food Closet that provides food, personal care items, baby food and diapers. It also donates food for transient or homeless people.

“I’ve learned in staffing companies, if you work together, you do a much better job,” Pruett said. “You do a much better job for your costumers. We all do the same things, but we want to band together to do our part and help feed the community.”

Pruett said that they all are like businesses and should have a like cause.

“We want to grow further awareness that we are here,” Pruett said.
