Long Cane hosting race

Long Cane Middle School will host the Santa Sprints on Saturday, with middle-school racing teams from across the area participating in the Greenpower USA event.

The first of four heats will begin at 8:45 a.m., and there’ll be an awards ceremony at 5   p.m.

The teams will race on a quarter-mile track.

Long Cane and Gardner Newman will each have two racing teams participating, and there are 13 total teams registered.

There will be four total heats, and the top teams will be awarded trophies and banners during the award ceremony.

The teams arrived on Friday, and they were able to get on the track for a 90-minute test session.

Event set-up begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday, and after a race check-in and a driver’s meeting, the action gets underway at 8:45 a.m.

In addition to the racing, there’ll be a pit-tent Christmas decoration contest.

There is no charge for admission.
