They just keep winning.

The Troup Lady Tigers stayed perfect with Friday’s 56-37 home win over Cartersville.

Troup improved to 15-0 overall and 5-0 in Region 5-AAAA heading into Saturday’s game at Chapel Hill.

While it hasn’t been a flawless performance every time out, the Lady Tigers have managed to win every time they’ve stepped on the court.

“It’s hard to show up every day,” said Troup head coach Carla Thornton said. “They’re getting everybody’s best shot. They’re staying focused, staying hungry.”

Sophomore Aniya Palmer, one of the key reasons Troup has a perfect record, led Troup with 18 points

Late in the third quarter, Palmer showed off her skills when she went airborne to intercepted a pass, and after landing she raced to the basket for the layup to push the lead to 27.

Alexcia Murphy and Jada Green each had eight points for Troup, and Amber Gilbert scored seven points.

With the game in hand, Thornton made sure everyone on the team got plenty of playing time.

Thirteen different players appeared on the court, and nine of them scored.

Thornton is always happy to be able to be able to get everyone involved, including the players who usually don’t play much.

“They work just as hard as my other girls do at practice, and you hate that some games you’re not able to get them in, and you feel for them,” Thornton said.

With Palmer and Murphy combining for 10 first-quarter points, Troup surged to a 15-5 lead.

Troup had a big second quarter with 20 points, with Palmer and Darnesheyuna McCollough scoring 10 combined points.

Leading 35-15 at the half, Troup outscored Cartersville 17-8 in the third quarter to take a 52-23 lead and put the game away.
