At LaGrange High, it’s out with the old, and in with the new.

A sparkling new, 2,000-seat gymnasium is being built on the LaGrange High campus, and it’ll be open for business when the 2020-2021 season rolls around.

There is more basketball to be played in LaGrange High’s current gym before the doors are closed, though.

When LaGrange hosts Troup on Saturday, it will be the final regular-season games played in a gym that was built in 1953.

The girls’ game will tip off at 6 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow at 7:30 p.m.

There could be more basketball played in the gym either in the Region 5-AAAA tournament or the state tournament, but there is no guarantee of that.

So there is the possibility that the boys’ game could be the final one ever played in the gym, which will add a little more spice to what is always a highly-anticipated game.

Tickets were sold at the schools last week, and if any tickets remain, they’ll be available at LaGrange High beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

This will be the second and final meeting between LaGrange and Troup in the regular season.

In the girls’ game, Troup eased to a 54-22 win in the first varsity game played in the school’s new gym.

The boys’ game was much more competitive, with LaGrange hanging on late to beat Troup 58-54.

Troup’s teams were off on Friday, while LaGrange’s teams were on the road against Cartersville.

Callaway’s boys’ and girls’ teams will also be in action on Saturday with home games against Bremen.

The girls’ game begins at 4:30 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow.
