Callaway cruises at Jordan

The Callaway Cavaliers remained in second place in Region 5-AA with a 56-48 road win over Jordan on Tuesday.

Callaway (11-6 overall) improved to 8-3 in the region with one region game remaining.

Antinez Blount and Jacob Freeman had 14 points apiece for Callaway, and Javontay Boddie and Duke Simpson had 12 points apiece.

It was a close game at the half, with the Cavaliers clinging to a 27-24 lead, but they outscored the Red Jackets 18-9 in the third quarter to take control.

In the girls’ game, Callaway (9-7 overall) overwhelmed Jordan 56-22 to improve to 7-4 in the region and stay in  a tie for third place.

Camryn Stargell and Niakoe Burks had 16 points apiece, and they combined for 14 first-quarter points.

Callaway’s teams visit Valley on Wednesday before closing the regular season with home games against Lamar County on Friday.

LAGRANGE: Sandy Creek maintained its perfect Region 5-AAAA record with a 98-50 home win over LaGrange on Tuesday.

Sandy Creek is 10-0 in the region, while LaGrange fell to 5-6 in region play.

In the girls’ game, LaGrange lost to Sandy Creek 64-20.

LaGrange’s teams close the regular season at Chapel Hill on Friday.
