Animals at the LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society are looking for love and their forever home at the third annual 14 Dimes 4 Love community event.
On Saturday, Feb. 15, locals looking to share the love can pay 14 dimes to receive 14 dog cookies to drop in a dogs’ Valentines box.
“We do this as an awareness event more than anything,” said Executive Director Mandi Bono. “A lot of people, when looking for a dog to adopt, don’t know where we are located. This is the first place they should be looking for a lost dog or to adopt a new dog.”
The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will also include a photo booth to take with the adoptable dogs or owners who have dogs.
“People can walk around and put cookies in the kennels and the Valentines boxes for the dog that they like,” Bono said. “All of the humane society dogs also have Valentines cards from them for the public. People can pull their card, and it will have their picture and a little description about them on the back. If people want to bring their dogs to meet the adoptable dogs, to see if they want to add the new dog to the family, they can.”
Each year, Bono said the event has been a success with adoptions.
“We always have a few adoptions from the event,” Bono said. “Every year, there have been a few lucky ones that get to go home with a new family.”
Instead of fundraising, Bono said they are more focused on getting the dogs adopted at the 14 Dimes 4 Love event.
“We wanted to keep it affordable so organizations and groups like Girl Scout Troops could come and participate,” Bono said. “It’s about getting more people out here to see the dogs. We hope to clear our kennels by the end of the event. We would love to see them go all home.”
There are currently 10 dogs available for adoption at the humane society that will also be available Saturday.
The humane society is located at 1390 Orchard Hill Road in LaGrange.
