LaGrange’s Anderson places fourth

LaGrange High’s Jacob Anderson wrestled his way to a fourth-place finish in the Class AAAA state championship in Macon.
Anderson, competing at 160 pounds, opened with wins over Northwest Whitfield’s Jordan McCamish and West Laurens’ Caden Snell.
In the semifinals, Anderson fell to Cartersville’s Jabril Williams, and he bounced back to beat Flowery Branch’s Chris Webb in a hard-fought 2-1 match.
In Saturday’s third-place match, Anderson lost to West Laurens’ Caden Snell 3-2.
Also for LaGrange, senior Matt Callaway’s hopes of placing ended when he was injured in his fourth match.
Callaway was injured during a 145-pound match against Baldwin’s Christopher Green, and he was unable to continue.
Callaway who went 2-2 at state, finished a memorable senior season with a 68-4 record.
Callaway finished fifth at state as a sophomore.
LaGrange’s other state participant was Colin Cavender, who went 2-2 in the 138-pound division.
Cavender lost his first match to Cairo’s Kason Sellers before beating Blessed Trinity’s Austin Crispo and Denmark’s Ethan Culbreth.
In his final match, Cavender lost to Chapel Hill’s Charles Hayes.
