It was a winning night for the Callaway Lady Cavaliers, who overwhelmed Bowdon 7-1 on Tuesday.

It was the Lady Cavaliers’ first game on their own field after playing their previous home games at Callaway Stadium.

It was also cancer-awareness night, with each of the players wearing a custom-made pink jersey.

“It’s good to be playing on our home turf,” said Callaway head coach Shonna Yawn. “And we got a good crowd with this being cancer night.”

Marisa Acevedo and Keeley McGuffin each had two goals for Callaway, and Alyssa Niner, Lainey Hill and Madeline Sabens had one goal apiece.

“This is a night where we let the girls just get out and enjoy the game,” Yawn said. “Tonight, we had a lot of girls score, and in the second half we were able to put some girls and let them have the opportunity to play. That was a big goal for tonight with this being a non-region game.”

Callaway was coming off a 10-0 victory over Jordan on Friday for its first region win.

Senior Alyssa Niner had a monster game for Callaway with six goals, and Marisa Acevedo added two goals.

Ashley Bowden and Keeley McGuffin had one goal apiece.
