USA South ends spring sports season
By KEVIN ECKLEBERRY
The USA South announced on Friday that is cancelling the remainder of the spring-sports season for the schools in the conference.
The decision impacts a number of LaGrange College teams, including the baseball team that has won the past three USA South tournament championships.
The seasons for the baseball, golf, beach volleyball, men’s lacrosse, and softball teams have also been canceled.
Here is the statement from the USA South:
“Due to the ongoing spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), with the safety and well-being of students and campus communities being paramount, the Presidents Council of the USA South Athletic Conference has unanimously decided to cancel all remaining regular season, including non-conference contests, and tournament competition in all sports for all League members, effective Monday, March 16.
Although the Conference acknowledges the disappointment this decision creates for our student-athletes, families and fans, it keeps the safety of those individuals and their communities at the forefront.”
There was some potential good news for the seniors on the LaGrange College spring-sports teams.
The NCAA Division III Administrative Committee announced on Friday afternoon that seniors playing spring sports will have one more season of eligibility.
That means that seniors whose careers would have ended this spring came return next season if they choose to.
