An Interface employee based at the company’s facility in West Point has tested positive for coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.
The company released the information in a press release on Wednesday evening.
“The employee is being treated by medical professionals, and we are thankful they are getting the care they need,” the company said in a statement. “We have since put our response plan into action, which includes requiring any other employee who may have come in contact with this person to self-quarantine for 14 days. We temporarily closed the facility and will have a third-party expert conduct a thorough cleaning based on steps recommended by the CDC and OSHA.”
A sign on the facility in West Point Wednesday notified the public that the facility was closed. The LaGrange facility is also closed.
“The impacted employee is based in our RCA facility in West Point, Georgia. Although the exposure appears confined to our West Point facility, for operational reasons we have decided to close all Troup County facilities in West Point and LaGrange while we conduct our cleaning process, and we anticipate reopening all sites on Tuesday, March 24, 2020,” the statement said. “We have implemented our Pandemic Pay policy, which extends up to 10 business days of pay to help support our employees as we manage this unprecedented situation. Our warehouses remain open to ship finished product, and we do not anticipate our customers will feel any impact from this temporary closure.”
“The health and welfare of our employees and the community is our top priority, and we will continue to assess and adapt our protocols with our employees’ safety in mind as the coronavirus situation evolves. We also encourage our employees and members of our community to continue to take precautions, to follow social distancing guidelines, and to adhere to stringent personal hygiene practices during this unique time.”
Troup County had two confirmed cases of coronavirus as of noon on Wednesday, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
