The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association released its all-state basketball team this week, and it includes a pair of local players.
Amber Gilbert, a senior who helped lead the Troup Lady Tigers to the state-championship game, made the Class AAAA North team that includes players from four different regions.
Gilbert averaged more than 15 points per game while helping Troup reach the state-championship game where it lost to Americus-Sumter.
Troup finished with a 27-2 record while making it to the state-championship game for the first time in the history of the program.
Gilbert was a four-year starter, and she helped Troup reach the state tournament for four consecutive seasons.
Also earning an all-state nod in Class AA is Callaway High’s Demetrius Coleman, who enjoyed a phenomenal junior season.
Coleman was the Cavaliers’ leading scorer, and he had 16 points in the final game of the season, a loss to the Model Blue Devils in the first round of the state tournament.
Callaway, which placed second in the Region 5-AA tournament, finished with a 14-8 record.
Coleman is also a standout quarterback for Callaway, and he helped the team reach the state semifinals the past two seasons.
