1935-2020
Mrs. Billie Ann Thomason Wilkerson, age 85, of Valley, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at her residence. She was born on Feb. 17, 1935, in Shawmut, Alabama.
Mrs. Wilkerson is survived by her son, Donald Wayne “Chip” Wilkerson, Jr.; nieces and nephews, David (Melanie) Dodgen, Andrew C. (Lisa) Dodgen, Nina Monroe Chapman, and Chris Wilkerson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, Donald Wayne Wilkerson, Sr.; daughter, Mona Lynn Wilkerson Rice.
Mrs. Wilkerson retired from the Troup County, Georgia School System where she enjoyed interacting with the students of West Point Elementary in the areas of reading, speech therapy and art.
She devoted many years of her life to the research of her family’s genealogy, spending countless hours in courthouses, archives, and government offices pouring over records throughout the Southeast.
She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a descendant of Wyche Jackson who was one of the earliest settlers of Chambers County. Much of Mrs. Wilkerson’s work can be found in the Cobb Memorial Archives in the H. Grady Bradshaw Library in Valley, Alabama.
Due to coronavirus gathering restrictions, a private service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the West Point Elementary Art Club.
