Former Callaway Cavalier Terry Godwin spent most of his rookie season as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad.

Godwin clearly made a positive impression on the team since on Thursday he signed a free-agent deal to remain with the Jaguars.

Godwin, a wide receiver who was a four-year starter at the University of Georgia, was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round last year.

Godwin was with the team through camp and played in the preseason games, but he was released before the regular season began.

Godwin was signed to the Jaguars’ practice squad and was with the team from week two through week 15 before being placed on the injured list in December.

Godwin enjoyed a spectacular high-school career at Callaway as a wide receiver, quarterback, kick returner and defensive back, and he helped the team reach the state semifinals in 2013.

Godwin made an immediate impact at Georgia, and by the time he was done he’d caught 133 passes for 1,788 yards with 11 touchdowns.

During his junior season, Godwin helped Georgia reach the national-championship game where it lost an overtime heart-breaker to Alabama.
