John Wesley “J.W.” Parmer

1933-2020

John Wesley “J.W.” Parmer was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Randolph County, Alabama, to the late Charlie Matthew Parmer and Martha Jane Driver Parmer. Mr. Parmer passed away on April 7, 2020, at the Senior Care at Poplar Creek. The Parmer family moved to LaGrange when he was seven years of age. He owned and operated with his three brothers Parmer Brothers Grocery for 66 years. He was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church in LaGrange, where he served as a Deacon and as a Sunday School Teacher. He married Betty Sue Culpepper Parmer on May 30, 1953. They would have celebrated their 67th anniversary this May. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Parmer is preceded in death by his brothers, Namon Parmer of LaGrange, Alvin Parmer of LaGrange, Grover Parmer of LaGrange, Ralph Parmer of Woodland, Alabama and his sisters, Eula Gosdin of Alabama and Lucile Hester of LaGrange. 

Survivors include his wife, Betty Sue Culpepper Parmer; his sons, Randall Wesley Parmer and his wife Jill Jackson Parmer, Kenneth Allen Parmer and his wife Pam Crow Parmer, John Philip Parmer and his wife Wendy Willis Parmer, and Joe Timothy Parmer and his wife Cindy Patrick Parmer; his grandchildren, Courtney Parmer Howard and her husband Gordon Howard, Hillary Parmer Tatum and her husband Jay Tatum, Wesley Parmer and his wife Laura Parmer, Brent Parmer and his wife Heather Parmer, Emily Parmer Smallwood and her husband Josh Smallwood, Summer Parmer Deal and her husband Wiley Deal, Lance Parmer and his wife Lauren Parmer, Lucas Parmer and his wife Miranda Parmer, Emma Frances Parmer, Lily Grace Parmer, Jackson Parmer, and Zack Nixon; 16 great grandchildren with one on the way; one great great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Due to public health concerns and State mandates, the family will hold a private graveside service on Thursday, April 9, 2020, with Pastor Mike Hornsby officiating. The family will hold a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.
