There will be some new faces on the sidelines when the high-school volleyball season gets underway in a few months.

Callaway, LaGrange and Troup will each have new head coaches for the 2020 season that is supposed to begin in August.

One of those head coaches will be moving from one school to another.

Leigh Bailey, the head coach at Troup the past two seasons, is taking over the volleyball program at Callaway following the departure of Precious White.

Bailey led Troup to the second round of the Class AAAA state tournament during her first season as head coach in 2018.

Bailey’s replacement at Troup will be Anna Andrews, an assistant coach on the team the past two seasons.

Bailey was the freshman coach in 2018 and the junior-varsity coach in 2019, so she’ll be familiar with the players she’ll lead onto the court this fall.

“I’ve had my hand in all three of the levels, because I was assistant coach for varsity last year, too,” said Andrews, a LaGrange College graduate. “So that was really nice.”

At LaGrange, Angie Newton has retired after a lengthy stint as the volleyball coach, and her replacement will be Tejay Dowden, who was previously the head coach of the Gardner Newman Middle School volleyball team.

All three coaches are hoping to get their players on the court soon, something they’re not able to do right now because of the coronavirus pandemic.
