Before the election dominated our coverage and attention this week, we wrote about two brave nurses from Troup County who still are, or was, fighting COVID-19 in a big way.

Destina Reid, a MMSc and PA-C, recently returned from two months of work at a New York hospital in Jamaica Queens. She told us her story about hundreds of patients jampacking a 30-person emergency room and how the hype she said on national news stations wasn’t justice.

Daily, Reid said she probably saw 100 patients and typically worked 15-hour shifts. All in all, she worked more than 50, 15-hour shifts during her time in New York.

In LaGrange, Georgia HomeCare registered nurse Tara Ormsby took it upon herself to be the nurse to visit all COVID-19 patients for the home care service.

She said that she knew it was her duty to do so when she was presented with the opportunity to volunteer.

Most of her job is making sure the patients have their basic needs attended to in a medical sense and to ensure they are educated about proper social distancing.

At the end of each day, Ormsby said she disinfected her car, shoes and threw her clothes in a designated spot to be washed before going into her home.

Without individuals like Reid and Ormsby, this situation would be so much worse than it already is.
