Clearview Elementary School’s roof is being replaced at no cost to the school system.

The school was opened in 2018, but over the first winter the Troup County School System noticed issues with the roof. Initially, TCSS was asked to let the roof “season,” but after both hot and cold months, the issues continued. 

Superintedent Brian Shumate said it appeared the roof was buckling in spots. 

After evaluating the roof’s issues, Carroll Daniel Construction Company, the contractor, is going to replace the roof at no cost to the system.

“This work will be completed at no cost to Troup County and completed before school starts,” wrote Carroll Daniel CEO Al Petrangeli in an email to Shumate. “While this is an expensive decision on the part of Carroll Daniel, we are confident it is the right decision.”

Shumate said before making the decision to completely replace the roof, Carroll Daniel tried several ways to fix and test the roof but was unsuccessful.

“It’s been a very professional dialogue around the resolution to make sure the roof is right,” said Superintendent Brian Shumate.

 “We’re very happy Carroll Daniel construction is doing the right thing in replacing the roof for the district.”

Shumate said equipment will get moved onto the Clearview property on Friday and construction will start Monday. 

He said the hope is to have it done by the time school is scheduled to start back on Aug. 10.
