Tony went home to be with the Lord on July 13, 2020.  Tony was a 1963 graduate of Lanett High School where he excelled in academics, football, and basketball and was a 1968 graduate of Auburn University.  Tony loved Auburn and enjoyed attending sporting events. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Ellen Jones and his sisters, Mary Ellen Prestridge and LaPatka Brand.

Tony worked for West Point Pepperrell, Applied Engineering, Shorewood Packaging, Kyser Warren, and West Georgia Technical College.

Tony was known as a loving husband, Daddy, Pop, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him.  He was a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons and Treasurer.  He loved his church home and church family.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Goodwin Jones; daughter, Karen Griffin; son, Anthony Jones (Tara); grandsons, Taylor Griffin (Erin) and Tanner Griffin; brother, Phillip Jones (Christy); sisters, NaTasha Sewell (Shelby), Marsha Scott (Scotty), and Jenny Crenshaw (Randy); brother-in law, W.L. Goodwin (Margaret Ann); sister-in-law, Jeanette Goodwin and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. James “Tony” Jones passed away on July 13, 2020, at the Wellstar West Georgia Hospice. Graveside services will be held on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. at the Fairfax Cemetery in Valley, Alabama. Family and friends will gather at the graveside. The family request that guests dress casually due to the heat.
