On Sunday morning at approximately 2:30 a.m. a 25-year-old-man was allegedly shot in the stomach on Hammet Road just prior to the entrance to Brookstone Estates.

According to a press release from the LaGrange Police Department, the victim was walking along the road when he was approached by an unknown male dressed in dark clothing and had a black in color mask covering his face. The victim reported the male demanded property from him at which time an altercation ensued. The victim told officers he heard what sounded like a gunshot and realized he had been shot in the stomach. The  suspect ran in an unknown direction from the location. The victim was transported to a Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center  treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives with the LaGrange Police Department determined the incident occurred in the unincorporated portion of Troup County and the investigation was turned over to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office Sunday morning.
