Callaway gets win at Shaw

The Callaway High softball team eased past Shaw 8-5 on Thursday for a much-needed win.
Callaway, which beat Trinity Christian in its season opener and hadn’t won since, improved to 2-6 and ended a six-game losing streak.
Mya Lawton had a solo home run for Callaway, and she also walked twice and scored two runs.
Leadoff hitter Chaple Butler had two doubles and three RBIs, and Alora Vetsavong had a double and an RBI while scoring two runs.
Chelsey Courson had a hit and two walks, and Lindsay Cofield and Mikayla Speer each had a hit.
Faith Horton got the start on the mound and pitched two scoreless innings, and Dara O’Neal threw the final five innings.
Earlier in the week, Callaway lost both games of a doubleheader against Mount Zion.
After dropping the first game 4-2, Callaway lost the second game 9-3.
In the first game, Butler, Lawton, Lindsay Cofield and Vetsavong each had a double, and Mckenzie Rhodes had a hit.
In the second game, Lawton had two hits with a double, and Vetsavong, Rhodes, Speer, Butler and Cofield each had a hit.
